Diet Coke and Mentos Experiment
Yes, we did it! The famous diet coke and mentos experiment was conducted one sunny morning at Small Cloud by Brittany, with a little help from Mrs. Seely. The first attempt didn't work, but the second try was a success. The kids really enjoyed it and learned a bit about force and pressure.

Science Experiments
Kellie and Paea dissect a flower and examine its pollen under a microscope, while Brittany uses her sense of taste to differentiate between five white powders. She found the sugar to be much tastier than the salt or the baking soda! Sarah observes the beautiful variety in the shape, color, and smell of some of the flowers God has made. Oops! Looks like Jazzie, the cat, wants to be a part of Sarah's lab too!

Learning the Books of the Bible
Mrs. Seely quizzes her Bible class on the order of the books in the Bible. They got it!

Listening Center

Last day of school on June 16th, 2006
June 16, 2006, was the last day of school. The day started out with a special breakfast served by the teachers. Worship came next. And finally, the even kids had been waiting for all year ... the annual Small Cloud water fight! Water balloons were prepared and when the kids ran out of those, they used hoses, buckets or whatever they could find. It was a fun way to close out a busy year!
Happy summer!

Mr. Sam Blake of Never Cry Wolf Rescue and Adoptions
Mr. Sam Blake of Never Cry Wolf Rescue and Adoptions visited our school with three of his magnificent animals -- Matsi, Lady Cheyenne, and Comanche. He talked to the students about the many myths surrounding wolves. He described their loving personalities and strong family bonds. He shared his love and enthusiasm for these wonderful animals. We really enjoyed the time we were able to spend with Mr. Sam and the wolves. We look forward to the day when, "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." Isaiah 11:6.

Paea's Ggardening Project
For his gardening project, Paea planted a hedge in our playground. He researched plants, asked questions at nurseries, and finally settled on pineapple-guava. The following photos show the steps he took to plant the hedge. It looks wonderful!

Brittany and her newborn kittens
One evening, Brittany's mom found a litter of six newborn kittens on their acreage. When no mother cat showed up to care for them, Brittany's mom bundled them up, brought them in, and assigned Brittany the job of surrogate mother. Over the next few weeks, Brittany faithfully brought the kittens to school every day. She bottle-fed them, rubbed their tummies, and cleaned them. Other students pitched in to help, but it was primarily Brittany's responsibility. She did a great job and was very attentive to all their needs. Sadly, despite Brittany's best efforts, only one kitten survived to adulthood.

Nicholson Glass Company in Auburn, California On Thursday, April 20, 2006
On Thursday, April 20, 2006, we were treated to a glass blowing demonstration at the Nicholson Glass Company in Auburn, California. Rick and Janet Nicholson have had their artwork displayed in a wide variety of locations, including the White House. While Rick and his assistant worked on the bowl, Janet explained the steps of the process. We were all impressed with the beautiful things they made there. (We were especially happy that nothing was broken by our group!)

Field trip to Fog Willow Farm on October 10, 2005
On Monday, October 10, 2005, Small Cloud went on a field trip to Fog Willow Farm. We enjoyed learning about how to milk a cow, how to plant a pumpkin and about each of the interesting farm animals there. We also had fun on the hay ride, picking out our own pumpkins, climbing trees, and jumping on the bales of hay! Sack lunches tasted especially especially good after all that activity!

Warrior Night (our Halloween alternative) on October 31, 2004
On October 31, 2004, we had Warrior Night (our Halloween alternative) at Small Cloud. The kids ate dinner, played games, baked cupcakes, and made crafts. They also listened to a story about the battle that rages between good and evil and how Jesus won the final victory by dying on the cross. After a prayer, everyone received a little goodie bag before leaving for home.

Trip to the California State Capitol on October 6, 2004
We took a field trip to the California State Capitol on October 6, 2004. We got to see Governor Schwarzenegger's office (he wasn't there). We learned a lot about the State Assembly and Senate and how a bill becomes a law.

Trip to the Egyptian museum on September 28, 2004
On September 28, 2004, we traveled to San Jose to visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum (Andy and Mikey Petrovich, Margie's homeschooled nephews, accompanied us). There we got to tour a life-size tomb replica see hundreds of ancient Egyptian and Bablyonian artifacts. It gave us a good idea of what life was like during the times of Moses, Joseph, and Daniel.
